IHSAN (Indonesia Humanitarian & Soacial Aid Network)

Dear all,

IHSAN was established one month after one of the biggest tsunami on earth that killed more than 170,000 people in the Province of Aceh that is located on the northern tip of the island of Sumatra. It was officially recognized by the Charity Commission in England and Wales with a registration number of 1110909 issued in August 2005.

This charity is run by Indonesians living in the UK; it’s chaired by Mr Asyari Usman who was since 2011 a retired journalist with the BBC Indonesian Service.

The purpose of the charity was to help the victims of the great tsunami in Aceh, but it continue to serve humanity after completing its projects with even more humanitarian works ranging from helping the survivors of several big earthquakes to volcanoes eruption to flash flooding in some different places in Indonesia.

We’re present in Jogjakarta earthquake in 2006 that killed 6,000 people as well as big earthquake with a lethal landslide that buried several villages in the Province of West Sumatra. Subsequently, we’re also taking part in big flood in East Java and Aceh followed by other natural disasters like Mount Merapi and Mount Sinabung eruptions.

Our mission has been expanding to include projects in social, education, and economic areas. To mention them partially, we provide fasting Muslims with food and drink in an annual event we call collective breaking fast or “buka puasa bersama” in Indonesian. We collect zakat of Eid-ul-Fitr (end of Ramadan celebration) to be distributed to people most in need. We also collect zakat of maal (alms of compulsory tax on wealth), again to be distributed to the poor and other categories of entitlement of the tax.

Annual religious duty upon Muslims called “qurban” (sacrificing animal like cow and goat with the meat given to the poor), is one of our regular activities. The list of program will continue including granting orphans with some donation either from our general income or from donation specifically aim to help them.

All of those works have been made possible because of donation from our loyal donors and others who give on one-off basis.

We would like to thank everyone that lend their support and give donation to IHSAN without which all of the works it completed would have not been possible to materialize.
